Definition: –
Compassion can be defined as the ability to recognise the suffering of ourselves and of others and take action to help. It is a tangible expression of love for those who are suffering that motivates people to go out of their way to relieve the physical, mental, or emotional pains of others and themselves.
Aims: –
- To recognise suffering in ourselves as well as others.
- To acknowledge uncomfortable feelings aroused (e.g., fear, distress) so that we remain open to and accepting of suffering.
- To understanding the universality of suffering in human experience.
- To develop the motivation to alleviate suffering and to take action.
