Or looking after ourselves using mindfulness meditation techniques.
This page contains the recordings of the meditations practised on the meditation study day entitled “Mindfulness Self-care”. The day was held and the recordings made in the Chapel of the Royal Northern Infirmary, Inverness, on Friday the 1st March 2024.
Practice 1 – Deep relaxing and compassionate body scan. A 45 minute body scan highlighting the softening and opening effect of awareness.
Practice 2 – A self-forgiveness meditation. A 25 minute meditation practice highlighting the need to deal with issues from our past so that we can be more comfortable in the present.
Practice 3 – Using the breath to help us deal with difficult events in our lives. Taking and sending with the breath to help us cope with life’s difficult experiences on the spot (21 minutes).
Practice 4 – Softening, soothing and releasing. A 30 minute self-compassion practice to help us deal with difficulties that have arisen during our daily lives.
Practice 5 – A pure self-compassion practice using an image of a compassionate being. A 30 minute practice to help us let go of difficult feelings and emotions and to feel a sense of forgiveness.
Key note from the day – practise to develop your awareness so that you can feel when difficulties are arising for you and acknowledge them just as they are. Learn to accept when some difficult event has taken place and to open to your suffering. Breath in that suffering, open to it with your heart and recognise your vulnerability and humanity. Finally, release as you breathe out and let go of your suffering.
