MEDITATIONS ON PAIN

This page contains meditations by Catherine Lavelle and Peter Wilkes on how to deal with and learn from the experience of physical pain.

  1. Basic pain meditation. A 27 minute meditation in which participants are invited to meet physical pain with mindfulness of breath and hold their pain in a wider dimension of being.

2. Dissolving tension associated with a tension headache (30 minutes)

3. Dissolving pain to peace (15 minutes)

4. Dissolving pain with spacing techniques (43 minutes)

5. Opening the body to pain (30 minutes). Derived from Stephen Levine’s book “Who Dies?”

6. Exploring awareness beyond the body (32 minutes)

7. Exploring pain (with thanks to Stephen Levine)

8. Calming and resetting the nervous system by Catherine

9. RAIN practice for pain by Catherine
